    Position Overview

    Supports new product development and improvement activities in all direct and indirect manufacturing areas through process analysis, process improvement, and methods standardization by using Canon Innovation Manufacturing Solutions (CIMS) and Industrial Engineering tools and engineering principles.
     

    Responsibilities

    - Understands the purpose of and implementation process of manufacturing practices, and is able to actively participate in and support a program in both direct and indirect departments. Identifies opportunities for and collects data for manufacturing practices. Documents data, prepares summary reports, and makes presentation of data to all interested parties.
    - Organize and lead the Improvement training to expand the whole CVI or even whole Americas to realize the lead time reduction, productivity increase, cost down activity.
    - Study the Store layout based on the manufacturing method, changeover time/frequency, production schedule, etc. and revise drawings. Evaluates inventory levels, calculates minimum levels based upon cycle/standard time, uptime, yield, customer demand, changeovers, etc. Analyzes test data and draws conclusions from findings to determine efficiency/reliability of the system/operation being evaluated. Writes technical reports to document investigation procedures and results. Present findings to management.
    - Supports analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop and/or design new processes utilizing & applying engineering principles, research data, & proposed product specifications.
    - Measures and analyzes production data, identifies and prioritizes opportunities for improvement; develops action plans to implement improvements. Prepares system/sub-system layouts & detailed drawings, designs & builds prototype systems/subsystems. Interacts with suppliers/vendors, requests quotes, and communicates issues as needed. Provides CIMS or Industrial Engineering support to the manufacturing departments to troubleshoot and solve production problems related to process or system design.
    - Write reports or research proposals and document design process and maintain a record of improvements/changes. Updates recurring reports as required. Takes an active role in implementing and supporting the execution of the above items. Reviews Engineer 1’s data, reports, and presentations; gives presentations as requested.
    - Prepares New Product Introduction (NPI) estimates (including recommended processes, equipment types (not design), assembly flow, material flow, alternative options, and timeline/schedule) for submission to project or program lead. Assists other staff with answering technical questions during NPI meetings. Recommends and implements process improvements. Automates processes to improve efficiency and productivity. Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Travels to vendor site to oversee and improve processes for Quality, Cost, Delivery or Environment. Utilizes statistical analysis to ensure process is capable and performing well, to include statistical quality analysis, hypothesis, ANOVA, DOE, and others as necessary. Reviews content of technical reports to ensure accuracy and consistency. Able to create options, compare them on merits and demerits, and present/debate and recommend best option based upon data.
    - Trains others on AutoCAD. Trains less experienced Engineers on department processes or systems.
    - Creates, maintains, and drives detailed project schedules across multiple disciplines. Leads projects and/or small teams.
    - Develops system wide solutions, utilizing Engineer I & II’s to support system evaluations through appropriate delegation of data collection, analysis, and reporting. Confers with division management, production, & QA staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, & manufacturability to new and existing products. Confers with other department personnel and/or the customer to clarify or resolve productivity, quality, ergonomic, cost, delivery or environmental problems. Performs complex statistical analysis of data for complex processes and draws appropriate conclusions. Reviews technical reports prepared by less experienced Engineers and provides feedback. Mentors and trains less experienced Engineers. May travel to customer site as needed.
    - May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.
     
     

    Qualifications

    - A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and 5-8 years’ experience in a related field.
    - Proficient in Microsoft Office.
    - Ability to create and present presentations and/or technical papers to management within and outside of Canon Virginia.
    - Proficient in an AutoCAD.
    - Excellent analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
    - Ability to work independently and in a project team environment. May have to travel.
    - May have to work overtime and may be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.
