    Position Overview

    The Senior New Product Development Buyer is responsible for supply chain development for new medical device product development projects.  The position is well-suited to someone who has experience developing the supply chain for new medical devices and seeks latitude to exercise creativity and judgment in an organization that is at the start of developing its medical device supply chain infrastructure.

    - Finding strong candidate vendors for both early development activities and for long-term supply
    - Collecting information to prospectively evaluate quality, cost, delivery, and management of supplier candidates
    - Collaborating with contract manufacturers and design firms in the selection of suppliers and addressing supplier issues
    - Drafting portions of agreements and collaborating with counterparts in legal to develop and negotiate contracts with suppliers for both development activities and ongoing supply
    - Traveling to suppliers and participating in visits with manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and others
    - Collaborating with cross-functional product development teams including project managers, manufacturing engineers, optical engineers, mechanical engineering, electrical engineers, software engineers, quality engineers, regulatory specialists, clinical specialists, marketers, and others
    - Developing bid solicitations with input from collaborators
    - Leading supplier selection process and bringing together input from the cross-functional development team and guiding the projects to achieve material cost targets and strong ongoing supplier performance
    - Maintenance of product bills of materials
    - Developing supply strategy at a part and supplier level (e.g. how to transition from supply chain managed by contract manufacturer to supply chain to support Canon manufacturing)
    - Procuring parts, controlling inventory, and proactively tracking component needs throughout development 
    - Complying with medical device manufacturing regulations and quality procedures and providing input into the development of these procedures
    - Supporting engineers in developing material specifications by providing manufacturability input based on understanding supplier capabilities across options
    - Primary point of contact in supplier communications including quality, specifications, costs, payments, delivery, volume forecasts, and contracts for product components
    - Negotiating cost, delivery, and service terms with suppliers and continuously reviews the marketplace for new and evolving goods and services, vendors, price trends, delivery trends and buying practices
    - Monitors and develops processes to monitor supplier performance on an ongoing basis to ensure their reliability, capability, and delivery of goods and services
    - Maintaining material cost projections and input assumptions (e.g. volume) for projects
    - Developing supplier management infrastructure (e.g. supplier selection matrices, supplier scorecards, checklists for supplier evaluation, etc.)
    - Embrace Canon’s kyosei philosophy and embody the san-ji spirit
    - Other duties as assigned


    - Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher required – engineering, science, or business preferred
    - Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in supply chain development and procurement; at least 2 years of experience in the medical device industry, experience working with contract manufacturers preferred
    - Ability to successfully execute responsibilities without supplier management infrastructure in place (i.e. no ERP system, SOPs are being developed, no pre-existing supply chain organization), but must have experience with these systems
    - Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
    - Strong skills in negotiating across multiple dimensions across multiple parties simultaneously and developing contracts
    - Proficient in the application of Lean Six Sigma principles
    - Strong proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
