Position Overview

Protects computer assets by establishing and enforcing system access controls; maintaining disaster preparedness. Plans and implements security measures to protect computer systems, network and data. Responsible for preventing data loss and service interruptions by researching new technologies that will effectively protect theorganization.


- Installs firewalls, data encryption and implements network recovery plans.
- Performs risk assessments and tests data processing systems.
- Responsible for staying up-to-date on the latest intelligence, including hackers’ methodologies, in order to anticipate security breaches.
- Establishes system controls by developing framework for controls and levels of access; recommending improvements.
- Maintains access by providing information, resources, and technical support.
- Ensures authorized access by investigating improper access; revoking access; reporting violations; monitoring information requests by new programming; recommending improvements.
- Develops security awareness by providing orientation, educational programs, and on-going communication.
- Prepare reports that document security breaches and the extent of the damage caused by the breaches.
- Assist computer users when they need to install or learn about new security products and procedures.
- Monitor the organization’s networks for security breaches and investigate a violation when one occurs.
- Provides support with evidence collection, documentation, communications, and reporting.
- Works with end users to determine needs of individual departments.
- Responsible for tracking compliance throughout the organization.


- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Information Technology or a related field and 2 - 5 years of security experience.
- Working knowledge of network setup, configuration, security, and troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of network systems, management/analysis tools, protocols, security systems, network hardware and standards such as Ethernet, Token ring, LAN, WAN, frame relay, xDSL, TCP/IP, ATM, T1, 802.11x, etc.
- Client/server, operating system, switched and routed environment, hardware, software and network connection troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
- Attention to detail.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- On-call availability.
- Frequent overtime and/or weekend work is required to test, troubleshoot and/or implement systems administered by this position.
- May be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.
