Position Overview

Strategically identify, obtain, and develop technology to create new business opportunities. Research and prove emerging and/or targeted technologies to the pilot scale.
 

Responsibilities

- Maintains awareness of trends in emerging and/or targeted technologies as well as underlying societal and market drivers through appropriate sources (e.g. journals, trade publications, news, academic sites, trade shows, conferences, continuing education)
- Identifies potential opportunities for exploitation; weighs against company alignment, internal and external potential, resource risk and other relevant factors (i.e. Intellectual Property)
- Identifies potential industry and academic partners needed to capitalize on proposed ideas
- Establishes and supports in maintaining relationships with outside partners in academia, industry and start-up companies
- Devises and drafts test plans; reviews with senior engineering and technical staff
- Implements testing at lab and pilot scale to prove out proposed technologies
- Writes test plans for technicians in BDE and supporting departments
- Develops and troubleshoots research, development and testing methods
- Interprets physical and analytical material testing results; uses results to make informed decisions
- Able to work directly on pilot scale equipment, including reconfiguring equipment
- Directly interacts with new and potential outside market sources to understand and rationalize potential customer needs using direct interviews, phone interviews, questionnaires and surveys
- Interacts with senior engineering and management staff for idea exchange and guidance
- Prepares and makes presentations to peers, senior management and executives
- May be assigned additional duties and/or special projects.
 

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering, Macromolecular Science and Engineering or substantially similar field of engineering with 2-5 years of direct experience (academic and / or industrial) in hands-on formulating, and testing polymer-based composites.
- Master’s degree in the same engineering fields and 0-3 years of experience will also be considered. Experience with developing composites from bio-based fillers and / or bio-based polymers is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple projects to agreed upon timeframes.
- Statistical process control and measurement experience preferred.
- Requires strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- Must be able to cause and effect investigations.
- Must have ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. 
- May have to work overtime and may be assigned to other shifts based on company needs.
