Position Overview

Canon US Life Sciences in Rockville, MD is currently seeking a Principal Engineer to develop and design products, systems or protocols in the medical device industry using advanced engineering knowledge.


- Independently designs systems of high complexity, has a full understanding of design control practices and defines thorough investigative approaches.  
- Draws high-quality conclusions from data analysis and has accountability for project outcomes.  
- Guides less experienced personnel in the testing and analysis process, as well as in the creation of MOIs (Memorandum of Inventions, or requests for patent applications), patent applications and technical reports.  
- Possesses a deep understanding of engineering principles and can present clinical study plans to the FDA as part of PreIDE.  
- Presents work effort in large design review sessions and communicates regularly with collaborators and customers.


- Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
- Knowledge of medical devices, in-vitro, in-vivo or molecular diagnostics or other related industry is required.
- Life sciences roles exist in a laboratory environment; position may involve exposure to human material and chemicals. Previous experience with safe handling, storing and disposing of these substances is preferred.
